Students of Community Secondary School Alode Eleme River State visits the University of Port Harcourt Arts Theatre


Education should not be limited to one’s immediate environment. True to this expression, the students of Community Secondary School, Alode Eleme River State, led by their Creative Arts teacher were hosted by The University of Port Harcourt Arts Theatre, The Crab, on   Tuesday 23rd   of February 2016.
Dr. Mrs. Faith Aminikpo, a senior lecturer in the Department of Theatre & Film Studies with a specialty in children theatre, guided the students on tour with enlightening talks and presentations by various experts of the department.

Dr. Chika Onu, a film/television Producer/Director and a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt, Nigeria gave the students a brief history of drama and its fundamentals, while Dr. Mrs.Faith Aminikpo took the students on costumes and its forms while Mr. Anthony  Gyapong a lecturer of dance and choreography took the students to sessions of diverse forms of choreography. At the end of the various presentations, the students were given the opportunity to ask questions, and they were cleared of some grey areas.
 To put into practice, what they learnt from the brief lecture, the co-ordinator, Dr. (Mrs.)  Faith Aminkpo gave the student the task of narrating a story of not more two minutes and then perform on stage via the use of improvisation.

In a vote of thanks, Mrs.Bellgam, the Creative Arts Theater of Community Secondary School, Alode Eleme River State, thanked the Department of Theatre & Film Students for availing the students the opportunity to acquire knowledge of the theater and it activities. She also told disclosed some immediate challenges encountered while teaching secondary school students Creative Arts. In response, Dr. Mrs. Faith promised to assist in her little way to boost students interest in Creative Arts, noting that the students are always welcome to come to the  University of Port Harcourt Arts Theatre to watch productions.  She encouraged the students always to open up and ask questions whenever the need arises. However, the students when interrogated expressed profound happiness and excitement over what they have learnt.  Finally, after the session inside the crab, group photographers were taken, after which they had some relaxation with the coordinator of the tour.
